How we work

Building the Future of Construction. Join Provision.

Provision started with a single idea — to become the operating system for construction. The time is now, because AI is finally capable enough to tackle the very complex tasks that define this essential industry.

Our mission

Reading this may make you wonder what it's like to build at Provision. We wrote this to share our mission and help you decide whether our team is where you want to make your mark. Construction is a calling for those who want to build the physical foundation of society, and we hope you'll consider joining us.

We believe construction professionals are held back by administrative burdens that accurate AI can transform. We're focused on building things that matter—critical infrastructure, hospitals, and housing. We want experts to focus on the human and creative aspects of construction—environmental friendliness, safety, usability, and happiness—while we build the AI to automate technical workflows like generating bills of materials and quoting.

Construction is a $2.17 trillion industry that has historically been tech-light. As the McKinsey Global Institute noted, it is one of the “least digitized sectors in the world.” You can still walk into a construction company and see processes run on paper. That's an enormous opportunity for innovation, and we intend to leave a lasting landmark on the industry. Because we're playing a long game, it's paramount to pick a technical stack that will support us for decades.

Your first day

You'll walk into our office in Toronto. We believe seeing each other in person makes us more productive—in a fast-paced world, any little break in communication can cost days of fixing. You'll meet Luigi and have your first one-on-one with Brendan. Your fully specced-out MacBook will be waiting, cloud access ready, and you can expect to push your first commit on day one.

You'll work with the keyboard and mouse of your choice—we provide a budget for ergonomics so you can do your best work. We have the occasional board game night, hosted an in-office poker night, and run regular AI show-and-tells and monthly lunch-and-learns (not necessarily about AI). We're trying to make Provision a fun place to work.

Product

Customer love comes first. Product decisions come from direct feedback from customers. When we see a recurring pattern, it's a good sign that an idea may become a feature. We have the best ideas when we meet customers in person, so we visit their offices regularly.

From those conversations we build internal and customer-driven wish lists. Our PM, Chris, prepares Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), and you'll be expected to read and fully understand them. Our goal is to build what makes the most sense for the customer—so if you notice something that doesn't, a great way to contribute is to challenge the PRD and tell us why. After that stage, you start implementing.

Tech stack

Technologies come and go, but basing ourselves in something that has been around a long time is our way. We picked Django for our web app because of its stable, robust Python framework. When you plan for a codebase to survive many years, it's better to pick the tool with real mileage.

Django has been around for 21 years, and we envision it being around for at least 21 more. Our Django monolith is joined by a React frontend, chosen for similar reasons. The app is deployed via GKE, and we use Google Cloud services for any other necessary APIs. We want every engineer to feel like a technical contributor—not stuck in any one kind of programming—with a mindset focused on getting things done fast, reliably, and economically.

AI

Our team is AI native. From your first day, you'll experience a team where every project is enabled for agentic coding. We record and transcribe meetings when it makes sense. If you're hesitant about participating in the AI movement, this may not be the right fit. We experiment with the best tools available and love discussing new finds. Our goal is to become one of the premier AI-enabled teams in Canada—mastering reliable, fast AI operations to lift the administrative burden off our customers' shoulders.

DevOps

We use Google Cloud Platform and it serves us well. With the robustness of GCP and the capabilities AI provides, we provision secure and reliable infrastructure quickly. The solutions we deliver must not only work, but be implemented feasibly—so the cost of running them decreases over time. AI can be expensive; once a solution works, our next step is making sure it works profitably.

Why we're hiring now

We need high-end technical talent today. We're seeing strong pull for our new offerings and must capitalize on it. With an increasing number of pilots and customer deployments, we need your help right now. If you want to be part of the top Canadian AI-native engineering team, consider joining us. We intend to make Provision a dynamic, energetic environment where the construction industry is refactored day by day.
