About Provision
Provision is building AI products for the people who make pre-construction decisions. We help contractors find risks, clarify scope, and work through complex construction documents with more speed and confidence. Our products are shaped by real estimator judgment, so trusted construction expertise is central to how we build.
About the Role
This is not a traditional estimating seat. You will use your experience in bids, quantity takeoffs, drawings, and specifications to evaluate the output of our AI products. Your primary work is data and quality assurance: deciding whether an output is right, explaining why, and creating the clear examples and standards that help us improve it.
You will influence the product because your judgment will show us where it succeeds and fails, but this is not primarily a product-management role. You will work closely with our engineering, product, and customer teams to make Provision's Scope Agent and RFI Agent more accurate, useful, and trustworthy for pre-construction teams.
What You Will Do
- Evaluate AI-generated scopes, drawing and specification conflicts, source links, and customer-feedback triage against real project documents.
- Identify whether outputs are correct, incomplete, misleading, or inapplicable, and document the reasoning and source evidence clearly.
- Create and maintain high-quality labeled examples, reviewer guidance, and quality thresholds for product evaluation and model improvement.
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, addenda, RFIs, and related documents across the estimating workflow.
- Surface recurring failure modes, edge cases, and gaps in the product, then help engineering and product teams turn them into actionable requirements.
- Help define schemas and standards for scopes, inclusions, exclusions, risks, assemblies, and trade packages.
- Support customer pilots and internal studies by reviewing output quality and explaining practical estimating implications.
- Prepare estimates or quantity takeoffs when needed to establish ground truth or investigate a product question.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of estimating or pre-construction experience across commercial, industrial, civil, MEP, or similarly complex projects.
- Excellent plan-reading skills across architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings, with confidence navigating specifications, addenda, and RFIs.
- Strong working knowledge of CSI divisions, work breakdown structures, cost codes, assemblies, and trade-package workflows.
- Sound analytical judgment and exceptional attention to detail, especially when distinguishing a plausible answer from a correct one.
- Clear written communication: you can explain an issue, cite the relevant source, and document a standard another reviewer can apply consistently.
- Experience with estimating or takeoff tools such as ProEST, Bid2Win, PlanSwift, STACK, Bluebeam, or comparable software.
- Curiosity about AI and automation, with the practical judgment to assess tools critically rather than accept their output at face value.
- Comfort working in an evolving environment where the highest-value questions are not always known in advance.
How We Work
- We treat estimator judgment as a product input, not an afterthought.
- We care about evidence: every decision should be explainable from the project documents and our shared standards.
- We use AI to move faster, but maintain a high bar for human validation, clear reasoning, and practical value to contractors.
- We work collaboratively across construction expertise, engineering, product, and customer teams.
